Introducing Laptop Tester: Full Hardware Diagnostics in Your Browser
Laptop Tester is a browser-based hardware diagnostic tool built for anyone who needs to quickly verify that a laptop is working correctly — whether you're buying a second-hand machine, handing one off to a new employee, or just troubleshooting an issue.
Why We Built It
Hardware testing tools are usually platform-specific, require installation, or cost money. We wanted something that works on any laptop, any operating system, right now — just from a URL. Laptop Tester does exactly that.
What It Tests
Keyboard
Every key on your keyboard is mapped visually. Press a key and it lights up on screen. This makes it easy to spot keys that are stuck, unresponsive, or registering incorrectly — something especially useful when evaluating a used laptop.
Camera
The camera test uses your browser's WebRTC API to access your webcam and display a live preview. You can immediately see whether the camera is functioning and check video quality without any software.
Microphone
A real-time audio level meter shows input from your microphone. Speak or tap near the mic — if the bar moves, it's working. No recording is made and no audio is sent anywhere.
Speakers
The speaker test plays a short tone through your audio output using the Web Audio API. Separate tests for left and right channels help identify issues with stereo output.
Battery
Using the browser's Battery Status API, Laptop Tester displays your current charge level, whether the laptop is charging, and an estimated time to full charge or discharge.
Privacy by Design
All tests run locally in your browser. No data — video, audio, or otherwise — is transmitted to any server. The tool requires no login and stores nothing.
